Guide-Letter #2 - The Soul Loves Risk
Hello my friends!
In these dark winter nights, I love to light a candle and read. Recently, I’ve been reading the profoundly beautiful works of the late, great, Celtic poet, author and some say mystic, John O'Donohue. In one of his works, Anam Cara (soul friend), he says the following
"The soul loves risk. It is only through the door of risk that growth can enter"
This resonated with me so deeply. When we are not following our true calling, we walk in a kind of shadow of ourself, as a lesser version, one that is not a true expression of who or what we are really capable of. Our soul feels dormant, trapped, like its not being allowed out into the light.
Ironically, we get a significant pay-off for avoiding our calling in the form of security, certainty and in particular, avoiding fear. But we never get true fulfilment.
This pay-off is what's called being in a prostitute archetype in psychology circles, selling ourselves for money in spite of what we're really called to do with our most precious gift, a beautiful life on Earth.
When we settle for less we stagnate, we don't grow and our soul is deeply unhappy. This invites all kinds of pain, poor coping habits, and over time, disease even.
I did this myself for 19 years, working through various corporate roles, until one day, finally, I plucked up the courage to leave, to face my self, and follow my own calling on a path into the unknown, no matter what happens.
I started over with a resolute understanding that from now on I would use my life on Earth as a gift and waste no more time.
I removed the security and certainty, and definitely felt the fear. I still do. But I understand it better now. I’m calm.
Immediately I also started feeling more alive, more connected and engaged with life! I can definitely say my soul is loving the risk and that I was growing more than ever before. John was right.
The thing is the more you dream, the more willing you are to care for yourself.
The more we follow our hearts, the more we make decisions that empower the higher self, the soul self, vs just settling for less.
This has a compounding effect over time. More and more good decisions, habits, lead to better long terms results and outcomes and true fulfilment. There are so many benefits.
The Celts knew this well, they had a deep reverence for each day and saw each day as a new day on Earth, and certainly they were never stuck in a "another day in the soul sucking 9-5" syndrome.
They had coming of age ceremony's and initiations for bringing the young into adulthood in a way that supported finding your purpose on Earth so you could thrive, and also support the tribe. Sadly this is so missing todays cultures globally.
Slí na Croí - The Way of the Heart, is the Irish language/Celtic term for this path.
So today, be reminded to be on your Slí na Croí in life and follow your true path! The more people that do this the better the whole world will be.

Today’s Irish Proverb from our ancestors
“Is Feasach don chroí rudaí nach dtuigeann réasún ar bith” - The heart has it reasons, of which reason knows nothing
