Guide-Letter #4 - Ancestral light and the Great Cycles
Hi my friend!
It's clear we need mostly unwavering alignment with purpose over the long term to be able to reach our true potential on Earth.
The amazing thing about it though is that when you're engaged in it right now, its not about the long term so much because you hit a peak state of aliveness just by being in alignment with the truth of who you are, NOW.
You don't have to wait.
You feel more alive just by being in alignment with you, and if you do that consistently, you're also creating a whole new possible future at the same time. You're re-inventing you.
But there's something else - we need to summon the warrior within us to be able to sustain such a hero's journey. And for that we need true vitality.
Without vitality, even smaller challenges become a struggle, we put things off, or give up, and settle for much less than what is truly possible. We don't have the energy. Over time, we forget what it was that we really came here to do, what really lights us up.
Now bear with me here. Imagine the power of the Great Cycles of the Solar System and then the seasons and oceans that ebb and flow on Earth in response to it.
And imagine just how deeply attuned and connected our ancestors were with these,
They such as the Celts were famous for being ferocious warriors, they must have had a lot of energy.
They actively participated in these natural forces and lived in harmony and balance with them. This in turn brought harmony, balance and rhythm into their own human biology, which turbo powers your energy, as we shall see.
The ancients understood that life was a wheel, a cycle, not a linear existence, and that working WITH these great forces gave them huge opportunity to leverage forward momentum into the next season and beyond. It gave them their vitality.
Now imagine working against this creative force instead of utilising it to power forward momentum in your life, how nuts would that be? Going up against the universe?
Well that's exactly what many of us are doing simply by living a modern lifestyle. By not living within the natural cycles of Earth, we miss out on so much of its valuable creative power and support.
Its not about rekindling some kind of recognition or nod to the cyclical nature of the seasons, its about bringing our human bodies back into them for real.
This connects us back to the SOURCE of vitality.
What is really hard for us to imagine now, is that life back then was 100% natural.
The benefits of this go way beyond what I can cover here in one Guide Letter. But for now I will focus on the main one, light.
The human body ONLY knew natural light for nearly all of time. Its source was primarily the sun of course, but also the moon or fire or candle light, all of which are natural light.
No other light, right up until really recent times in terms of the whole history of Earth. Then in the blink of an eye, it changed.
The Sun
All natural forms of light have beneficial spectrums in them which are nourishing to our human biology and functional rhythms on some level. The most beneficial is obviously the sun.
Sun light is full spectrum light and each spectrum has its own unique colour and associated benefit.
It penetrates in various depths into our skin and in through our eyes and stimulates different processes in the body, such a collagen production or elastin production.
Different depths have even shown to be able to regrow hair. It also penetrates the fat in our cells and can turn that fat into a more healthy type of fat.
It also helps to structure the 4th phase of water in our cells, plasma water, in to more healthier water. This has profound wellness benefits.
In the red and infrared spectrums there is a deeper penetration that happens into our cells and this has been shown to charge our mitochondria (cellular energy production centre). This means our bodies can actually synthesis energy directly from sunlight! A bit light plants do with photosynthesis.
Sun light also has profound benefits for mental health and are overall feeling of well-being with different colours of the full spectrum eliciting different emotions in the brain. The benefits go on and on.
Our ancestors had this all day long EVERY DAY (even in clouds there are many spectrums and most the benefits)
It's starting to make more sense now. How they had so much energy and we have so little. We are indoors nearly all the time. We have shut out our most precious source of energy and vitality.
The idea that sun on our skin is somehow bad for us is very misguided indeed. It is only bad if we have no sun light for most the year, then stand outside in the blazing summer sun and get burnt in one sitting.
If we live more outside each day throughout the year, our skin produces a productive pigment called melanin which balances UV light and guards against damage, by design. I have proven this myself over many years and never get burnt in the summer, with no sun cream whatsoever, no matter how long I seem to stay out.
The Home Fire
Then at night they had a real fire. Fire light is devoid of blue light, is mostly red, orange and yellow light and the heat coming off it is in infrared wavelength, which is also beneficial when it reaches our skin. It sets up us beautifully for a deep and restful sleep. So even firelight helps!
Darkness
Darkness is also highly beneficial. It is part of the cycle, it brings us down, allows proper hormonal balance by dropping things like cortisol levels and bringing up melatonin, known the sleep hormone but one that has many other powerful benefits as well.
So light and dark are are both vital forms of nutrition to our body.
Ancestral Light today
It is in working with our 24 hour day and with light and dark, that can we step back in to a more ancestral lifestyle and work WITH the Great Cycles of nature to empower ourselves forward in vitality and sustain our missions of purpose.
How to setup a more ancestral light diet in and outside your home
- get outside in the natural light as often as possible during the day
- especially try to get outside first thing in the morning (this helps regulate your circadian rhythm for the rest of the day)
- when it gets dark, try to use as much natural light as possible inside your home (fire, candles, or you can use incandescent bulbs if you can find any, as they are actually natural light emitting via a burning filament. There are other healthy bulbs coming on to the market as well but I try to use real natural light as much as possible only)
- if you must have artificial light after dark, avoid blue light at all costs. This disrupts hormonal cycles of the circadian rhythm and can cause serious health issues in the long term. You can buy blue light blocking glasses or have screen covers that filter blue light etc.
We are coming full circle as a species, starting to understand we have to go back in order to go forward. We have to reconnect to the source of our vitality. But we can also do it in a modern world.
The universe is here to support us! So why work against it?
In the day time get to the light, in the night time get to the dark.
Wishing you well on your Slí Na Croí! Your Way of The Heart.
Le buíochas,
Dillon
